In general we’re looking for 6th formers to discuss these projects in an open, supportive way. The below prompts are not, therefore, supposed to be a script for a conversation, just a few ideas.

Week 1 :

Ask the year 7 student:

  • To talk you through the problem with you and what they are looking to achieve.
  • If they know anything about wind turbines and how they work.
  • If they have any opinions about possible advantages and disadvantages of wind turbines as a source of energy.
  • What kind of place would be ideal for a wind farm (try to get beyond just ‘somewhere windy!’).
  • What kind of resources they are going to find useful.

In addition to the above it would be helpful if you can check:

· They are ok using google maps.

· They understand how to use the level ladder (possibly go through this with them)

Try and close the conversation by the year 7 drawing together what they will do next. It would be great if you could agree what they will look to have done by when you meet next week (e.g. decided upon a site for the wind farm).

Week2 :

This week talk to the student about:

· What they have done so far.

· Any problems they have come across. Talk these through.

· The rationale for why they have chosen a particular site. Look to challenge their thinking!

· Any resources they have used. Would any further resources be useful? E.g. have they talked to their parents about their work.

· What kind of format they are going to use to present their project. See if they have considered any alternatives.

Go through the level ladder like a tick sheet and look to support them with the gaps they have left out. The student may like to show

Week 3 :

This week is focussing on pulling ideas together and identifying any areas still left to improve. Again, go through the level ladder (focusing on higher levels hopefully!) and look to support with any gaps. The questions asked in previous weeks will still be valid!

Thank you for the time you have put into supporting our year 7 students!smile
